You have probably heard that any cleaning involving a portable
will void a carpet warranty. Let's cover all things known
to void carpet warranties so you can see if one thing alone
would give the carpet mill an "out" when it comes to backing the
guarantee most every one of us would never use.
- You had the same carpet installed on the staircase.
That voids the warranty for all the carpet in the house.
- You have ever run a business ( including child care ) in
the home. The carpet was not sold to you for use in a
commercial operation.
- You used a Dyson vacuum cleaner on the carpet at an
time.
- Anything less than a truckmount with a IICRC Certified
Technician cleaning your carpet. Say goodbye to
everyone including Stanley Steemer with the exception of
those who will charge you an arm and a leg because they have
you right where they want you. That includes the use
of a home carpet cleaner machine or a rug doctor.
- If you have berber carpet using any vacuum that has a
power head. All uprights will void the warranty as
will most canister vacuums.
- Failure to vacuum you carpet at correct intervals.
- Not having your carpet cleaned at correct intervals
which translates into generally once per year.
- Treating carpet every 18 months with Scotchgard or
Teflon is not an option, it is a requirement to maintain
your warranty.
- Carpet that has lost it's shape due to stretching.
When a carpet needs to be re-stretched is when you see
raised ranges being formed by your vacuum. Waiting to
have this done voids the warranty.
Face it, most of us did something on our own including taking
the word of a carpet salesperson that voided our warranties long
ago. You do not want to use the scare tactics of some
cleaners to guide your decision in choosing a carpet cleaner.
Know that the technician who does the job is more important than
the cleaning method.
